Damascus steel is made of soft and solid carbon steel. Typically, the knives of this type of steel are made up of several layers, thus obtaining a very hard core. In order to make it more flexible a softer metal is added. It consists of HVG, ShKh15 and U10 steels. In earlier times swords were made from Damascus steel, which were very durable and hard. Their unique cutting characteristics are due to its multi-layered steels, therefore, creating a blade similar to micro-saw. The knife blade has more than 1000 layers. Given the fact that knives made of Damascus steel are very unique, they are very popular among collectors, but is often used for hunting and tourist knives due to its hardness and durability.
